Received this classic Airfix set today. It appears to be complete apart from the oil bottle. This is one of the later sets with the hand shapes controllers and steel rails.
All though the sets is in good condition the box is in a poor condition and will need some careful repair work.

Having checked the area required for this set I realised that it would fit in the area used for my Winter Layout which is still covered with some thin plywood.
So I decided to build the set, the only work done to the track was to replace the missing connector strips, a spare pack came with the set. I then discovered that some of the crash barriers were damaged and one of the bridge supports, this I borrowed from another set and I have a lot of spare crash barriers. I also found the the power connector straight was missing one connector and so I have taken one from another set.
The layout was built as per the Airfix instructions with the exception that I used two, not one, track edge connectors under the track to stiffen the joints and have not used the lap counter replacing this with a normal straight

The track worked with no work required although a little Inox did help.

The Red Mini does not work, needs re[wiring, but the Green Mini with a change of tyres, Jouef Mini tyres just about fit, runs slowly. I have also tried my Revell and Scalextric Ford Cortina Mk1s and need careful driving as the motors are to fast for this sort of track and grip is minimal. I also tried some of my 1/43rd Jouef cars and some worked on the track but grip appears again to be low.
I have three other Airfix Mini's of which two run and they both work quite well on the track.
