This scratch build car is based on an Aoshima Snap Kit and I planed to do a simple build. After I bought this kit I also bought a Slot.It Skyline chassis but when I tried it against the body the wheelbase didn't seen correct so I ordered a Slot.It HRS2 inline chassis kit to use in the build. The body is moulded in Midnight Purple and doesn't need painting and I have decided to use the stickers that come with the kit, these are for the cars badges, some lights and the window surrounds. My idea was to print a 3D interior tray with chassis mounting posts and a seperate v3D interior with seats and driver as I did for the 1/24th scale Nissan Bluebird. The Skyline isn't the widest of bodies and this showed up a problem with the HRS2 chassis. This chassis is designed to take the earlier style Slot.It motor pod with the tab on one side which means the chassis is wider on one side than the other and only left room for a narrow set of wheels, 6 or maybe 7mm wide. I then decided to try the Slot.It Skyline chassis again laid over the HRS2 chassis the wheelbase seemed almost correct and the mounting holes also matched up. I did have to trim the sides along with the front and rear of the chassis to get it to fit under the body. I have since realised that I selected the wrong chassis and have actually used a Slot.It Mercedes 190E chassis. This did allow me to use some 9mm NSR tyres which are fitted to Sloting Plus BBS 15.9 x 8.5mm wheels. The motor is a Avant Slot 25k long can motor, which came fitted with a 9t pinion, driving a Slot.It 25t crown. The deep wood guide and braids are from NSR. The only other problem was with the driver plate, which didn't show up when I was test fitting everything. After doing all the test fitting I had to trim the interior plate a bit which meant it fitted a higher in the body but this meant the drivers head and the seat tops were making contact with the underside of the roof. I could have reprinted the driver and seats but I had already glued the trays together and as the driver tray surround is very thin it's not easy to remove so I have removed the top of the drivers helmet and part of the front seats. The rear parcel shelf is from the kit and cut down to suit.

Gave the car a test run on my clubs track as we had a practice session today and much to my surprise it handled quite well given it's only about 50mm wide. There were a few problems with a motor pod screw coming loose and not wanting to stay in place and I also realised after a couple of rolls, hence the roof scratches, that I hadn't fitted any front axle grub screws. It's not that fast a car on the club track partly due to the narrow track so I may change the motor for a lower RPM one and keep it for home use.

It was today that I realised I hadn't used the Slot.it Skyline chassis having watch the short Slot Car News video on YouTube showing the one he is building and his chassis fitted perfectly.

I've now added the front grill unit to the car which also contains the chromed headlight units, I've also fitted the headlight lenses. At the rear I've fitted the rear light unit which has coloured sticks for the lights with clear lenses fitted over the stickers. Both units clip inside the body and I have also glued them in place, along with the headlight lenses these are the only body parts glued on.
